Every winter, humpback whales migrate to the warm waters of Okinawa. Our Whale Swim Tour gives you the rare opportunity to enter the ocean and encounter these magnificent whales in their natural environment.

Why Swim with Humpback Whales in Okinawa?

Okinawa is one of the few places in Japan where you can swim with humpback whales in the wild. From January to March, these whales migrate to the warm waters around Okinawa to breed and raise their calves. Seeing them underwater offers a completely different experience from whale watching from a boat.

How the Whale Swim Works

From departure in Naha to entering the water, our crew will guide you through each step of the experience.

01 — Departure from Naha

We depart from Miegusuku Port and head out in search of humpback whales.

02 — Search for Humpback Whales

Our crew searches for whales while observing their movements and behavior.

03 — Get Ready to Enter the Water

When conditions are suitable, our staff will explain when and how to enter the water.

04 — Swim with Humpback Whales

Enter the ocean and experience humpback whales underwater in their natural environment.

Who Can Join the Whale Swim?

For your safety, participants must meet the following requirements.

01 — Age Requirement

15–55 years old

02 — Certification Required

A valid scuba diving or freediving certification is required.

03 — Water Skills

You must be able to enter and exit the water independently, even in rough sea conditions.

Important Whale Swim Rules

To protect both you and the whales, please follow these rules while in the water.

01 — Enter the Water Quietly

Enter the water quietly from a seated position. Jumping or splashing is not allowed.

02 — Do Not Chase the Whales

Do not chase, dive toward, or approach the whales on your own.

03 — Stay with Your Guide

Always stay near the staff member holding the flag and follow their instructions. Do not swim ahead of the staff.

04 — Multiple Entries

If the whales remain calm and conditions are suitable, we may make multiple entries. Please rest on the boat whenever you feel tired.

Please Note

The water is deep. If you drop your camera, mask, fins, or other equipment, it may not be possible to retrieve them. Please secure your belongings carefully.

Wildlife & Weather Notice

Please understand that whale encounters and tour operation depend on nature and sea conditions.

01 — Whale Sightings Are Not Guaranteed

Humpback whales are wild animals, so sightings cannot be guaranteed. No refunds will be provided if whales are not encountered.

02 — Weather & Boat Cancellation

The tour may be cancelled due to weather or sea conditions. If the boat is cancelled by the operator, a full refund will be provided.

Payment & Cancellation Policy

Full payment is required to confirm your reservation. Please review our cancellation policy before booking.

Standard Booking Cancellation Policy

After booking confirmation — 20% cancellation fee
3 weeks before the tour — 30% cancellation fee
2 weeks before the tour — 50% cancellation fee
1 week before the tour — 100% cancellation fee

Boat Charter Cancellation Policy

Boat charter bookings are non-refundable once the reservation is confirmed.

This is because the entire boat is reserved exclusively for your group, and we must decline other bookings in order to secure the boat for you.
